The term Flemings () denotes the majority population in Flanders (the northern half of Belgium). The population of Flanders is about 6 million people (the majority of all Belgians). Modern Flanders does not correspond exactly to the former County of Flanders, which included parts of present-day France (French Flanders) and the Netherlands (the southern part of the Dutch province of Zeeland, known as Zeeuws-Vlaanderen). The eastern parts of present-day Flanders belonged to other Holy Roman fiefs, chiefly the Duchy of Brabant and the County of Loon.
